Industry Investment in Environmental Concerns

Human economic activities can cause pollution
Most of the investments made by the farms over the last years are aimed at limiting the negative impacts of aquaculture on the surrounding environment. Some of the motivations, which have prompted entrepreneurs to invest in the environment include:
  1. The operating legal framework. Today, enterprises must guarantee the full efficiency of the plant under environmental, hygienic and sanitary laws.
  2. The development of general concern by all to protect the environment. In the information society of today, we receive a great amount of news on environmental disasters, statistics on the progressive increase of pollution and so on. As a result, everyone has developed his or her own "environmentalist" conscience;
  3. The awareness that a farm's production is strictly linked to its pollution. This principle affirms that the productivity (and the profitability) of a farm is linked to the technology, the assets and the organisation of the enterprise. The best management practice includes efficient management of industrial waste, which, of course, is a sign of good productivity
  4. The guarantee of moving towards satisfying consumer demands: today consumers ask for quality behind the product they buy. This means knowledge of the production system and origin. For such reasons, the product label becomes more important as a tool of direct communication between producer and consumer.
