Fish farming has many advantages for the final consumer as well as for the environment, in general. Just consider how much effort would be required to capture these quantities in the sea and by-catches. Fish farming can meet the growing requirement of the market for fish of high nutritional value and health standards, thus reducing pressures on wild stocks and enabling regulation on stocks and fishing efforts.
It is very important that today’s consumers have fresh fish, produced under totally controlled conditions, on their tables daily. Marine fish have won the appreciation of the modern consumer, as a result of their highly unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids content, which have been identified as active protectors in the fight against coronary disease.
