Good water quality is essential

The environment must be monitored carefully |
|
A farm’s productivity in the lagoon environment is strictly linked to the health of the natural elements (water, air, backdrop) which make up the local environment. In practice, a high quality of all the environmental components will lead to a high quality and quantity of the end product. For such reasons, monitoring the activities is of tremendous importance for all phases of the production cycle. ALMAR staff devote particular attention to the quality control of the waters with respect to:
- The chemical components (the pH of the water has to be between 7 and 9)
- The temperature of the water in lagoons (must be no more than 2 degrees C° higher than the ambient sea temperature)
- The salinity of the water (has to be in the range of 12 to 38 parts per thousand)
- The quantity of dissolved oxygen essential for the Tapes vitality (the quantity present must be lower than 70%)
- The level of hydrocarbons, metals, residual organic material, material dissolved, or any other type of pollution present.
It has to be stressed that the aforesaid correlation between quality of the water and productivity of the farm has a positive consequence:
- On the final consumer – who has the possibility to acquire a product of good quality
- On all the community - the use of sustainable production techniques mean the lagoon equilibrium is not altered
- On profitability of the enterprise – accepted good quality product
- On policy makers - presentation of an environmentally sound working practice
