A sustainable approach |

Both biologists and producers agree and consider products of lagoon areas to be of higher quality because in general, extensive techniques of production are adopted in these areas. The characteristics of such techniques are:
- A lower environmental impact
- Lower productivity per hectare meaning farmed production is not subject to the stress of a high concentration of shellfish e.g. Tapes (lower productivity than a lagoon where intensive techniques of breeding are adopted)
The increase in production of fish from aquacultural activities in the last decades has led to some particularly positive effects for the market:
- The supply of fish, molluscs and shellfish has increased (so that in many countries the consumption of fish products has increased implying a consequent improvement in an individual’s daily diet)
- The prices of farmed species have decreased
